Things to check before a rebuild
Older homes — especially fibro homes built before the 1990s — may contain asbestos, which needs to be assessed and, where required, removed by a licensed asbestos removalist. Heritage listings, trees and flood or bushfire overlays can also affect what you can build.

Knock Down Rebuild FAQs
Do I need home building compensation insurance?
In NSW, residential building work over $20,000 requires home building compensation (HBC) cover to be in place before work starts or a deposit is taken. It protects the owner if the builder can’t complete or fix defects due to insolvency, death or disappearance.
Will I get a written contract?
Yes. Every DVELOP project is documented with a written contract setting out scope, price, inclusions and program. In NSW, residential building work over $5,000 requires a full written contract, and smaller jobs over $1,000 still need a written small-jobs contract.
Where do I live during the build?
Most owners rent nearby. We give you a realistic program so you can plan the move, and finance can often be structured to cover the build period.
